Pathogenic characteristics of a case of human Streptococcussuis infection in Anhui Province

Abstract

Objective To identify and classify a strain isolated from the blood of a patient infected with Streptococcussuis in Anhui Province,and to analyze its molecular characteristics. Methods Vitek 2 compact automatic bacterial identification instrument was used to identify the isolated strain biochemically,slide agglutination method was used to identify the serotype,PCR method was used to detect five virulence genes and multilocus sequence typing (MLST),and PubMLST database was used to obtain ST type. Results The isolated strain was identified as Streptococcussuis type 2 by biochemical and serotype identification.The PCR results of the virulence genes cps2J,sly,ef and gadph were all positive.The result of mrp was negative and MLST was ST7 type. Conclusion The isolated strain was Streptococcusuis type 2 (cps2J+/sly+/ef+/gadph+/mrp-ST7),which had strong virulence.The ST7 type strain from human was first reported in Anhui Province.Prevention and control measures should be strengthened in the epidemic foci to prevent the recurrence of cases.
