Molecular characteristics of an GII.P16-GII.2 norovirus outbreak in Anhui Province

Abstract

Objective To identify the genotypes and molecular characteristic of an acute gastroenteritis outbreak in Anhui province in 2018. Methods Facal/anal swab samples collected from this outbreak and sporadic cases were detected by Real-time fluorescent quantitative PCR.Partial RNA dependent RNA Polymerase(RdRp) region and capsid region nucleotides of GII NoV positive samples were amplified by RT-PCR.All samples were sequencedand analyzed. Results Twelve fecal/ anal swab specimens from the patients were posotive.Ten posotive samples were sequenced successfully.The homolgous and phylogenetic analysis showed that the isolates belonged to norovirus type GII.2. They have high homology in sequences of nucleotide and amino acid respectively with the strain from Taizhou China(MH806429,MH842206). Conclusion The acute gastroenteritis was caused by GII.P16-GII.2 norovirus, considering that it had already triggered epidemic in China, the monitoring of this novel GII.P16-GII.2 variant will be a crucial part of NoV surveillance in the future.
