Abstract

Objective To analyze the waist circumference characteristics and explore the influencing factors of high waist circumference of 3 to 6 years old children in Wuhu City. Methods In 2017,children aged 3 to 6 in 7 kindergartens in Wuhu City were selected by a cluster sampling method to measure their height,weight and waist circumference,describe their waist circumference characteristics,conduct a questionnaire survey on their parents.The influencing factors of high waist circumference of 3 to 6 years old children were analyzed by Logistic regression. Results 1 924 children were investigated,including 1 009 males and 915 females.The average waist circumference of boys was (52.35±4.85) cm,and that of girls was (51.22±4.37) cm.There was significant difference in waist circumference between different gender groups (t = 5.344,P < 0.05) and age groups (F = 75.944,χ2< 0.05).The results of multivariate logistic regression analysis showed overweight in children (OR=19.579,95%CI:13.902-27.573),father being overweight (OR=1.722,95%CI:1.236-2.397),using iPad time ≥ 1 hour (OR=2.218,95%CI:1.212-4.058),eating fast (OR=2.566,95%CI:1.582-4.165),eating slowly (OR=1.578,95%CI:1.053-2.363) and liking to eat non-vegetarian food (OR=1.526,95%CI:1.060-2.197) will increase the risk of high waist circumference. Conclusion The waist circumference of 3 to 6 years old children was affected by their parents' BMI,time spent watching videos and their own eating habits.
