Analysis on the status of overweight and obesity of children in 10 kindergartens of Hefei City in 2020

Abstract

Objective By investigating the height and weight of kindergartens,to understand the situation of overweight and obesity in children. Method Body mass index (BMI) was calculated based on the weight and height test data of 1 954 children from 10 kindergartens in a street in Hefei City in 2020,and overweight and obesity were assessed. Results Among 1 954 kindergarten children,the rate of overweight and obesity was 33.57%,of which the overweight rate was 20.06% and the obesity rate was 13.51%.The obesity rates of under 4 years old,between 4 to 5 years old and over 5 years old were 10.69%,13.43% and 14.95%,respectively,showing an upward trend,but the difference was not statistically significant (χ2=5.012,P=0.082).The obesity detection rate of boys (15.18%) was higher than that of girls (11.56%),and the difference was statistically significant (χ2=5.458,P=0.020). Conclusion The detection rate of overweight and obesity is higher in kindergarten.It is necessary to strengthen the health management of diet and exercise in kindergarten children,especially boys.
