Analysis of the epidemiological characteristics of varicella in Hefei,2012-2021

Abstract

Objective To analyze the epidemiological characteristics of varicella in Hefei City from 2012 to 2021,and to provide scientific basis for the prevention and control of varicella. Methods Descriptive epidemiological methods were used to statistically analyze the varicella epidemic and vaccination data in Hefei City from 2012 to 2021. Results A total of 46 195 cases of varicella were reported in Hefei City from 2012 to 2021,and no death cases were reported.The average annual incidence rate was 58.149/100 000.The incidence rate of varicella showed an upward trend (χ2trend=5 233.325,P<0.001).Affected by the epidemic of COVID-19,the reported incidence rate of varicella decreased slightly in 2020.The high incidence period of varicella was May to June and October to January of the next year,which showed an obvious seasonality.Varicella were mainly concentrated in the population under 20 years old.The highest incidence age group was the 10-year old group (263.969/100 000).The trend analysis of age group incidence rate showed that the incidence increased the most in the 15-year old group.The main occupations of the infected population were students (26 020 cases,56.326%),preschool children (5 988 cases,12.962%) and scattered children (4 784 cases,10.356%).49 outbreaks were reported from 2012-2021,with the highest number reported in 2019,when 14 were reported.The first dose of varicella vaccine rate of the population born between 2012 and 2020 was 81.587%,and the second dose of varicella vaccine rate of the population born between 2012 and 2017 was 18.418%. Conclusion The incidence of varicella in Hefei City is on the rise,with obvious seasonality.Students are the main incidence group,and the age of cases tends to move backward.
