Research progress on the prevalence of pertussis and immunization strategies

Abstract

Pertussis is a highly contagious respiratory disease caused by Bordetella pertussis (Bp).After the diphtheria-tetanus-whole cell pertussis (DTwP) vaccine was introduced and put into use,the global incidence of pertussis decreased significantly.In recent years,developed countries with high vaccine coverage have seen "pertussis reappear",and the reported incidence of pertussis in various provinces in China in recent years has also shown an upward trend.The reappearance of pertussis was affected by a combination of factors,such as the pathogenic characteristics of Bordetella pertussis,the change of vaccine type and effect,and the improvement of monitoring and diagnosis level.This article reviews current situation of pertussis epidemic and the immunization strategies for various populations worldwide,providing a reference basis for the prevention and control of pertussis in China.
