Epidemiological investigation on the first monkeypox clustered epidemic in Anhui Province

Abstract

Objective To investigate the cause of the first monkeypox clustered epidemic in Anhui Province,analyze its transmission chain,and provide reference for the disposal of such incidents. Methods An epidemiological investigation was conducted on 3 confirmed cases of monkeypox by Anhui Province Hospital Infection District,and a time map of epidemic transmission was drawn.Real time fluorescence quantitative PCR was used to detect the nucleic acid of monkeypox virus. Results The three cases involved in this epidemic were men who had sex with men(MSM) and had a history of HIV infection.The source of infection might be a case from outside the province named Yu,which was transmitted through male homosexual behavior.The main method of case detection was active medical consultation,accounting for 2/3. Conclusion Interpersonal transmission of monkeypox is mainly caused by male homosexual behavior,and intervention is needed in MSM populations to reduce the risk of infection,while improving the detection and diagnostic capabilities of medical institutions for monkeypox.
