Investigation on the awareness rate of knowledge of HFMD among medical workers at township and village levels in Yingshang county

Abstract

Objective This study was aimed to investigate the awareness rate of hand, foot and mouth disease(HFMD) of the medical workers at township and village levels, and provide reference for medical workers' training. Methods We randomly selected 2-4 medical workers at township level and 2-4 medical workers at village level from each town of Yingshang county, and field investigation was used to get awareness of the medical workers on HFMD knowledge. Results The knowledge rate of HFMD was 84.50%, that of medical workers in township hospitals was higher than that of medical workers in village clinics (χ2=8.959, P<0.003), and the knowledge rate of medical workers with qualifications of medical practitioners or assistant medical practitioners was higher than that of medical workers without the qualifications (χ2=7.685, P<0.021). They had less knowledge about early symptom among severe patients. Only 18.41% of them knew that vomiting, persistent fever and limb shaking were the most common symptoms on early stage of severe case. Conclusion The awareness rate of various issues were different, and effective training measures should be taken to propagate key knowledges for the medical workers.
