Epidemiological analysis of the first avian A(H5N6)influenza case in JiangXi Province

Abstract

Objective To analyze the first case infected with avian influenza A (H5N6) virus in Jiangxi province, and provide scientific basis for prevention and control strategies. Methods Research was carried out by investigating medical process and possibly exposure source of the case, together with taking a medical observation of close contacts of the patient, and collecting samples of pharyngeal swab and environmental exposure for laboratory testing in addition, thereby analyzed by description epidemiology. Results Pharyngeal swab specimen of the case was tested positive for H5N6 avian flu virus nucleic acid, with the infection from other regions and once exposed to live poultry, no abnormal was found from medical observation of 25 close contacts. Case was confirmed with H5N6 virus infection late and had a history of basic diseases, however, was not on targeted therapies at early time, resulting in worse illness, and died of respiratory failure finally. Conclusion The case infected by Human avian influenza A (H5N6)virus in Jiangxi province is related to live poultry exposure.
