Report of delivery resources in Anhui province, China

Abstract

Objective To identify the delivery resources and provide basic data for improving delivery services in Anhui province. Methods Data of delivery resources from all hospitals with delivery services in Anhui were collected using self-designed questionnaire. Results In 2015, there were 1358 hospitals providing delivery services in Anhui, with 786 town/township hospitals (57.9%), 269 private hospitals (19.8%), 230 public hospitals (16.9%) and 52 MCH hospitals (3.8%). Totally, there were 23898 obstetrical beds, 11 472 obstetrical personnel (6798 obstetrical doctors and 4674 midwifes). There were totally 705050 deliveries reported by 1203 (88.6%) hospitals in 2015. The public hospitals reported 358004 deliveries (50.8%), private hospitals reported 174692 (24.8%), and MCH hospitals reported 47296 (6.7%). Among 1202 hospitals with delivery load and obstetrical personnel, more town/township hospitals reported low average deliveries per person, more public and private hospitals reported high average deliveries. There were 22 hospitals reported 200 or more deliveries per person, almost all of which were in north Anhui. More town/township hospitals reported low average deliveries per bed, more public and private hospitals reported high average deliveries per bed. There were 8 hospitals reported 100 or more deliveries per bed, most of which were in north Anhui. Conclusion The number of obstetrical personnel and beds in Anhui were slightly higher than the national average level. Private hospitals played an important role but MCH hospitals did not play the main role, the potential of town/township hospitals could be developed. The shortage of obstetrical doctors and beds was more serious in north Anhui.
