Abstract

Objective To investigate the malingering symptom tendency of left-behind children in rural areas and explore the relationship between malingering symptom tendency and psychological health of left-behind children so as to provide reference for corresponding intervening measures. Methods A total of 369 left-behind children from 6 rural primary and secondary schools of Suzhou city, Anhui province were investigated with general left-behind situation questionnaire, Chinese Structured Interview of Reported Symptoms (SIRS) and Mentality Health Test (MHT). Results The detection rate of malingering symptom tendency in rural left-behind children reached 61.5%.The psychological health situation of left-behind children, whose malingering symptoms were positive,was poorer than those whose malingering symptoms were negative (anxiety scores : 46.34±12.62, 40.30±10.62,t=4.606,P<0.01).The detection rate of mental health status of children with malingering symptom tendency was higher than that of normal children (P<0.01).The frequency of meet and contact between parents and left-behind children were the influencing factors of malingering symptom tendency. Conclusion The malingering symptom tendency of rural left-behind children had been an un-ignored problem.And it was related to the left-behind children's mental health.At the same time,the left-behind situation was also a key factor that affected the appearance of malingering symptom tendency.
