Objective Investigating people’s occupational quality of life (QOL) of an enameled wire manufacturing enterprise by using SF-36 Concise Scale, and to evaluate the effects of low concentration benzene series and cyclohexane on QOL of workers in the workplace. Methods The occupational hazards of lacquer-coated postion, wire drawing postion and office postion in an enamelled wire production enterprise were investigated. The SF-36 scale was used to investigate the occupational hazards of lacquer-coated and wire drawing workers. The norms of Hangzhou urban residents and Sichuan urban and rural residents were selected as the external control. The non-benzene series and cyclohexane contacted wire drawing workers were selected as a comparison. Results Occupational hazards in lacquer-coated postion belonged to low concentration contact. The scores of workers’ physical functioning, general health, vitality, mental health, role-physical, bodily pain, social functioning and role-emotional in SF-36 were 86.9±14.0), 77.9±34.5, 64.9±16.0, 66.8 ±13.2, 77.9 ±34.5, 79.5 ±12.1, 81.0±15.8 and 80.5±31.5. The scores of physical functioning, general health, vitality and mental health of lacquer-coated postion were high, while the scores of role-physical, bodily pain, social functioning and role-emotional were lower than those of Hangzhou urban residents (P< 0.05). Except for the scores of role-emotional, the scores of other dimensions were lower than those of urban and rural residents in Sichuan province.(P<0.05). The scores of physical functioning, bodily pain and general health of workers in lacquer-coated position were lower than those of workers in wire drawing position (P<0.05). Conclusion Low concentration benzene series and cyclohexane affect the quality of life of occupational population.
