Objective To explore the mobile phone dependence of medical students and its influencing factors. Methods A total of 1200 subjects were selected by stratified cluster sampling in the undergraduates (non-graduating class) of a medical university. The self-designed questionnaire was used to analyze college students' mobile phone usage and its influencing factors. Results 2.92% of the subjects were mobile phone addicts. The smartphone ownership rate was 99.1%.The mobile phone addiction index (MPAI) score (40.42±11.60) and the four dimension scores were different among different mobile phone addiction tendency groups. The difference was statistically significant (F values were 2 086.023, 641.844, 593.352, 397.734,606.621, respectively, P values were all<0.001).The detection rate of the group with high mobile phone addiction tendency was 26.04%.The detection rate of the group with high mobile phone addiction tendency of female students was higher than that of male students. The difference was statistically significant (χ2=7.808,P=0.005).Multivariate stepwise linear regression analysis showed that there was a linear relationship between MPAI score of mobile phone addiction tendency and time spent using mobile phone, learning pressure, time spent using mobile phone after 18:00, time spent using social software every day and gender. Conclusion Medical students use mobile phones widely, and the phenomenon of mobile phone dependence is serious.Great importance should be given to guide them to use mobile phones reasonably.
